Happy Saturday everyone!

Thoreau wrote....

"Happiness is like a butterfly; the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulders."

Are you chasing happiness?  What brings pleasure to your every day life?

I woke up this morning and was about to turn on the television and slapped my hand and instead began working on my goal setting.  Do you set goals?  Do you write them down?  If so, I would love to hear about your experience.  Did it help you achieve your goals to actually write them out...to perhaps visualize them or actually find pictures to support the ideas you have inside?

My goals are in six categories...
   Spiritual
   Physical
   Financial
   Social
   Attitude
   Pleasure

I did some research on line for these....and actually in most articles it said to not share your goals with others.  So I won't share the individual goals but just the idea of my new endeavor.
Hopefully these won't be like New Year's resolutions...which I purposely didn't do because all my past new year's resolutions failed.

On another note.  My daughter, Arlene, is competing this weekend at Disney World.  She will win 3 medals and has already been given three t-shirts.  This morning she ran a half marathon and tomorrow she will run a full marathon.  She is in the first wave...I think she said her number is 146...hoping she does well.  Thirty nine miles in one weekend is totally mind-boggling to me!!!  Good luck to Arlene!  Next she will begin training for the qualifying triathlon for the Olympics...where she gets all this energy is beyond me.

Have a great weekend!!

  1. Good luck to Arlene....I agree, that takes lots of work and energy. Are you back home? I think the last I knew, you were headed to Florida, and if so, did you have a good trip? School has started back here, how about there? Hope the rest of your weekend is good.

  2. Yes Linda, I am back home. We drove down and flew back. It was a good trip. I wish I could have stayed until this weekend to see Arlene run, but yes, school did start back up on the 7th and I wanted (and needed) to be back for that. Hope your weekend is good also.

  3. I tend to think in terms of goals rather than resolutions, too. And I like the idea of not sharing specific goals. I think it compounds your sense of failure if everyone knows what you failed at. And your list is really a good model. I may steal it. ;)

  4. Hi Ruth! Good to hear from you! I never make resolutions, and don't write down any goals. I have things I need to do and work on, but I've not been one to write things down (other than grocery lists and a to-do list for things at work. Good luck to Arlene!! Wow - she has set a big goal for herself!! I hope she places well in both events - please let us know how she does!

    1. Yes, my daughter is very goal driven. She gets up at 4am and exercises for 2-3 hours every day. After exercising in her garage she comes in and does a weighted hula hoop for about an hour. I wish I had her energy!!

  5. I like your list of goals. I'm not thinking too far ahead this year because there is so much happening that will be interesting to see how things turn out. Lots of challenges with kids and grands right now too. My goals are one day at a time. I started attending a ladies Bible study Thursday with a workbook intitled something like Help for the Frazzled Female. Funny title but quite an excellent study I need it!

    1. Sounds like a great study. I use to be frazzled when my children were home and I was younger....now I have been finding it challenging to fill my days...thus the new goal setting thing.

  6. Arlene is amazing!! I can't imagine running that many miles in a couple of days! Wishing you good luck as she trains for the Olympics..that is so exciting! I don't usually write down my goals, unless I blog about them. I do look at pictures and do a lot of day dreaming when it comes to what I want to complete. Wishing you all the best as you go after each one of you goals!!

    1. Yes...my daughter amazes me because I don't quite know where she gets her drive and motivation. To her exercise is like food...she has to have it.
